Old News

Version 7!

Finally! The new design! It's only taken something like a year and a half to get here, but sure enough, away with the pink, grey and black - in with the blue, grey and black!

Well, not quite... You can still see pink if you want, or green, or orange even in the new style if you're using either Opera or Firefox (or similar) browser. Choose the other styles from the "View > Page Style" option in Firefox, or "View > Style" in opera to access the alternate styles. I may add a proper stylesheet switcher in future, but for now it's blue by default, other colours if you can search them out :)

Along with the new design, I've improved a bunch of other stuff as well behind the scenes. Comments, "most recent" menus, general menuing and a bunch of other stuff. More to come when i get chance!

Freelance Web Developer

I'm currently available to do some freelancing. I'm quite happy to put together Wordpress Themes from your designs, build (X)HTML, do some sexy CSS and maybe even a bit of PHP/MySQL. I can also do PSD -> XHTML if you've got a design ready. Please contact me if you'd like to work with me. My rates are £30 per hour and a bag of prawn cocktail skips. Ideally, the prawn cocktail skips can be replaced with a Cadbury's Twirl. Alternatively just skip the Skips, and the Twirl

Site updates, new backlinks and a number one

Well, an eventful last few weeks site-wise. Firstly, my design has been used on two articles (that I know about): Footers In Modern Web Design: Creative Examples and Ideas, and Shivani Pillay's website comparison article. As an added bonus, after a lot of hard work SEO-wise, I've managed to claim the top spot on webagogo.be. Probably won't last too long but nay mind, at least it made it. Woop.

new stuff for incubus: random stuff

just added:

  • comments system
  • social bookmarking
  • dynamic rss feed
  • dynamic google sitemap
  • dynamic yahoo url list sitemap
  • SEO fixes to navigation links
  • "Most Recent" menu
  • plenty of other stuff fixed in the background...

Groovy. thanks to Rajender Singh for his obsocialbookmarker plugin for wordpress which my own social bookmark stuff is based on. As an added bonus, I'm not using nofollow on the comments yet, so if you want an easy backlink, and a little extra search engine traffic please post some nice comments. Of course, offensive nasty ones will be removed, as well as obvious spam. I'll also be checking to see if you've linked to me too. So please do!

Version 6.5

I'm so chuffed with it, i skipped version 6.2, 6.3 and 6.4! Almost complete design overhaul but in keeping with the previous skin's colour scheme and style. Added a nice sidebar for extra menus, making things easier to maintain and easier for people to find stuff, things and whatever else there is. Bootiful.

pdincubus at virb°

i mentioned before about virb.com. I like their idea for a better online profile myspace type place. Soon there's a new version of the site coming. Bonus. Anyways, hop on over to my profile and you will notice it looks very similar to the design of this site. fookin' amazing that. It's not completed yet as the main content still looks a bit too standard, but I'll fix that too when i get some spare time. Once you set up your account, if you know a little XHTML and CSS you can completely redesign and re-jig the entire profile top to bottom, have anything anywhere on the page. Brilliant. You can have a truly unique profile. I think I might put together a few basic and maybe a couple or more impressive virb profile layouts and stick them on here for people to use. I'm nice like that you see. updates to come when i get chance. Just to get you started on your journey into customisation, here's some free virb layouts for you. I'll make some more when i get chance. Some fancy ones too. Rock on.

backlinks

I'm finding getting quality backlinks is actually a very tough task. I find sites that have thousands of backlinks sometimes don't even have good content. I've spent a lot of time on this site, trying to make sure that it's got plenty of original content, useful stuff and things of a resource type nature. You know, the kind of stuff I like to visit other people's sites for. SO why is getting good backlinks such a problem? I've noticed that there's a trend called blogtipping where you link to two or three people's blogs, do a little write up about the good points and a tip to improve it. An easy way to be useful and provide a backlink to someone i guess. But my site isn't a blog, it isn't really a business, and it isn't really doing anything except providing a bit of free info & displaying some of the stuff I've written & produced. I think it would be good for me to start compiling a list of places for quality backlinks. Well, here is the list so far. Please, anybody, let me know if you find any other search engine friendly directories or sites which you can list on.

Top tens & other various lists of useful stuff

To start my adventures in telling others how to do things they probably already know how, here's a list of my favourite lists of favourites.

Keywords & Page Descriptions Hassles

Apparently "and" & "the" are the two most important words on my site according to one online tool. But using another, I find that "stuff" & "random" are  most common. Now, i'm sure as shit that nobody is ever going to find this site by typing the first two keywords into google. In fact, in recent times I've had some pretty random search terms bring me up. Not in an "I've been sick" kind of way. A few of my recent favourites are:

  1. what happened in the year 1860
  2. jan graba
  3. caveman timeline
  4. let me give you the subject of the day
  5. a timeline of time
  6. when was the discus invented
  7. 3000 bc - 1000bc zulu timeline

I'm sure there are many more I've not yet come across, so to speak, but it's amazing how one or two particular pages picks up more than anything else for search engines. I guess they have a hell of a lot of keywords that I just never realised. After all, I didn't exactly write those two pages for search engines, I wrote them to read. Fair play to timeline of time, & of course, the legendary university ramblings

Version 6

Ok, I've left my site alone for far too long, & thought I would have to start updating it sooner or later. I've completely redesigned it, ground up, new templates, new code, new features, new just about everything really. I've been on a testing mission whereby I'm trying to make incubus as accessible & standards compliant-ish as possible (within reason of course!), so this site has once again become my playground. Hopefully plenty more updates to come soon! v5 of 1ncu8u5 can be found over at v5.1ncu8u5.co.uk. I've spent a hell of a lot of time working on v6 over the last couple of months - and have improved it in just about every area. along with giving up on the fact that nobody is going to ever remember the name 1ncu8u5, I've actually attempted to write my content properly too. Well, kinda.

Web Standards

Visit my web standards site, where hopefully one day soon I will update it to make it a bit more current, add some new stuff & fix all the stuff I never actually got around to doing int' first place. I've updated at last, started fixing all XHTML & even some CSS errors. I will even start (hopefully) adding new content to it - like i first intended. It began as a mini-site to go with my University Dissertation, but i've kept is just in case. There might be handy stuff, it might be total bollocks.

Chronicles & Anti-quality

Newly updated right about here. Sign up, have a rant, go to bed feeling a little better. Antiquality. Not quite working, as in totally broken.
